A40 Cheltenham Road, Burford – Signal Controlled Pedestrian Crossing
I am writing to inform you that Oxfordshire County Council will be undertaking works to install a permanent signal-controlled pedestrian crossing outside Burford School to replace the recently demolished footbridge and temporary pedestrian crossing.
The works will start on Monday 8 Feb 2021 and are expected to last for up to 8 weeks. We will be carrying out some advanced investigation works and setting up of the works compound from Monday 1 Feb 2021.
Most of the works will be carried out under 2-way temporary traffic signals, although certain works will be carried out under overnight road closures (20.00 hrs – 06.00 hrs) between Tanners Lane and Burford roundabout, which are programmed as follows:
– Monday 22 Feb to Thursday 25 Feb
– Friday 19 March to Saturday 27 March
These dates may be subject to change depending on progress of the works.A signed diversion route will be in place via A361 towards Lechlade On Thames / A417 towards Cirencester / A429 north back to the A40 and vice versa.
During the works we will endeavour to maintain access to frontages at all times, but in instances where accesses need to be temporarily suspended for certain construction activities, individual property owners will be contacted in person in advance of the work. We will also endeavour to keep noise to a minimum, but please bear in mind there may be some disturbance.
Keeping You Informed
A number of methods of communication are being used to keep you informed during the works:
Signs are being placed on site to forewarn road users in advance of the works. These will give details of the overnight closure dates above, and any changes required to these dates.
Variable message signs are also being placed on the A40 immediately east of the Northleach Roundabout (Gloucestershire) and A40 immediately west of the Wolvercote Roundabout to forewarn road users in advance of the works
Updates on radio travel bulletins.
If you think the works will cause you particular problems with access or deliveries or you require further information then please contact the Highways Enquiry Team on 0345 310 1111 or email@example.com (08.30-17.00 Monday-Thursday and 08.30-16.00 on Fridays).
The county council has designed its traffic management to minimise the impact on residents, the School and businesses as well as road users affected by this work. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused. We will do our utmost to complete this work as safely and as quickly as possible.
